Are Weight Loss Surgeries Risky?

Losing weight is pretty stressful and \”painful\” process, and like every dieter, you would like to avoid extra worries, additional problems and complications. To give a boost to your slimming plan it\’s not a bad idea to find a diet pill that works for you the best.

The right product can make whole weight loss process much easier and can be used in long term. Also it\’s a better choice considering that other commonly used alternative is weight loss surgery.

There are 4 main types of weight loss surgeries and all of them can be risky and can do more damage than good in some cases.

1. Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG). During this surgery stomach is stapled forming 2 parts where top part is smaller. Food passes to the bottom pouch through a small passage. Band is used to eliminate the stretching of this passage.

Risks of this surgery include band itself because it is prone to wearing and staple line which can break down causing the leakage of stomach juice into abdomen causing additional health problems.

2. Laparoscopic Gastric Banding (Lap-Band). This surgery mainly is performed on individuals who are seriously overweight. Band which is inflatable is placed around the upper part of the stomach. Usually this device is intended to be permanent. Size of the band can be changed.

Band slippage, vomiting and nausea are only few risks and side effects caused by this weight loss surgery.

3. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RGB). Purpose of this surgery is to help you eat less and to reduce the amount of absorbed nutrients by the small intestine. It is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach by stapling it where smaller part is attached to the small intestine.

Side effects include faintness, leaking, sweating and others. Often patients suffer from so called \”dumping syndrome\” where food moves too fast through the small intestine.

4. Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD). This surgery is rarely used because it is very risky. Large part of stomach is removed to limit its capacity and to reduce a stomach acid production. Main risks are: complicated surgery and nutritional deficiencies.

Weight loss surgery should be performed as a last resort or if previous attempts to lose weight have failed. There are much safer and generally better weight loss methods available.
